About Cascade de la Diomaz

The Cascade de la Diomaz is a natural waterfall in the Chablais, at around 1,223 m altitude, on the boundary of Bellevaux and Mégevette. It forms on the Diomaz stream, a tributary of the Brevon, which flows down into Lac de Vallon. Access is free year-round.

The waterfall is made up of several cascades flowing into rock pools naturally carved into the stone, known as the Carthusians' pools (marmites des Chartreux). At the foot of the waterfall, a cross known as the Carthusians' cross is engraved in a rock: it marked the boundary of the territory of the Carthusian monks who occupied the site for nearly four centuries, around the Sainte-Marie de Vallon monastery whose ruins and the Chapelle Saint-Bruno remain.
